Welcome
Since I design and code web sites for a living I decided it was probably about time I had a web site. So welcome to my little corner of the www.
By way of introduction, my name is Marc Pacheco and I’ve been working in web related fields since 2000. For more specifics see my CV and work sections.
The idea behind the site is to allow me some space to play and develop designs, as well as give me a place to show some of my past work and act as a point of contact. It will also show my commitment to standards based design and my enthusiasm for accessibility and usability. I find both of these fascinating and think they underpin web site design and complement the other design tools which are so essential to the final product.
Not surprisingly, I am very excited about the web. To me it is one of the technologies that seems to have no end of applications. Not that this is very original, but it is still true and I remain passionate about the possibilities it presents.
For those that are interested
The site is xhtml 1 strict and uses css for presentation. The css is css 2.1 with a few touches of css 3. On the server side it uses some php to make my life easier and to do the banner rotation. On my to do list is a search box, that however, needs to wait till there is a bit more content.
Since my aim is to experiment with new css and html techniques some browsers have unfortunately to be left behind. At this point version 4 browsers such as internet explorer 4 and netscape navigator 4 are no longer tested. Internet explorer 5 and 5.5 should work fine but some of the more spiffy things will probably not make it. Finally, if you are using Firefox, Opera or Safari, the page will look as intended. That just leaves the browser 90%, 80% 39% 28% of the web uses (still falling! could it be gone soon?), Internet Explorer 6, so far as possible the pages should look the same in explorer 6 as it does in more modern browsers. Though again, some things may not make the cut. The pages work well in ie7 thought the translucent navigation highlight doesn’t work, not surprising really since it there is no support for the opacity property in ie7.
The photographs used in the banners were taken by me (except one which was by a friend) over the last 3 years.
